11/25/2023 0 Comments Devour frozen foods reviewWhat I got: a very soft (fluffy isn’t a bad way to describe it) savory doughnut spread with vaguely pickley cream cheese and topped with pickles. I love both pickles and doughnuts, so I was excited by the thought of indulging in a uniquely sweet and savory treat that somehow blended the flavor of pickles with the sheer joy of a soft, fluffy doughnut. I’ll admit that a part of that had to do with my expectations. Where to find them: Fluffy's Hand Cut Donuts, South Grandstand Avenue, $8ĭescription: What started as an April Fool’s Day joke has taken off… welcome the Dill Pickle Donut! Get ready to bite into this hand-cut yeast-raised donut "frosted" with a dill pickle juice whipped cream cheese and topped with thick-cut dill pickles and a dill sprinkle.Īs adorable as it was wrapped up in its pink polka dotted tissue, this intriguing offering was undoubtedly the biggest disappointment among all the foods I tried this year. Notes: The dish descriptions used here were taken directly from the State Fair Food Finder. I've ranked 14 of them from worst to best (14 being the worst) and included my tasting notes and candid thoughts for your reading enjoyment. I spent 7+ hours on opening day of the Fair working my way through a list of reader-suggested foods, tasting every single one. Say, that gives us an idea for a re-review… We think you could probably fix this if you used a toaster oven instead of the microwave, but we can’t say for certain because we haven’t tried it yet. The Devour Philly Cheesesteak Grilled Cheese tastes great but it’s a little soggy. That would be fine for a meal that left us feeling stuffed, but we were still hungry after eating this sandwich. One sandwich has 480 calories (150 from fat). This should come as no surprise to anyone who’s familiar with Devour’s frozen meals, but this is no low-calorie affair. These aren’t your itty-bitty little bits either, you’ll find substantial pieces of both in between the slices of bread. It has this smokey flavor to it, which enhances the beef phenomenally well.Īdded into the mix are fire-roasted green peppers and caramelized onions. That means it’s a gooey sauce that also has some stretchiness - it’s the best of both cheese worlds. Dear lord, what can we even say about this cheese sauce? The sauce itself is a cheddar sauce, but it has a blend of cheddar, mozzarella, and provolone in it as well. We only wish there were more of it.Īnd the cheese sauce. Don’t expect gristly, chewy meat this is perfection. This is real angus beef, and it’s fantastic - it’s rich in flavor and tender, so eating it is a pleasant experience. The bread stays dry around the very, very edges, but the rest of it will be moist and even a bit sticky.ĭevour wasn’t kidding around when it came to the beef, though. Now, we’ve mentioned this before, but when it comes to Devour’s microwavable sandwiches, the crisping trays don’t seem to do as much good as they do for some other frozen foods. Once you get this all set up, stick in the microwave for two minutes and 40 seconds. You can see in the photo above how well the box survived the process - its creases are crisp and its flat surfaces are left unbent. Sometimes, we find these sorts of contraptions to be difficult to work with, but this time we had no trouble tearing or folding the box. This sandwich comes with a crisping tray, so you can fold the box, set the crisping tray on it, then place the two halves of the sandwich on top of that. Now, we promise we’ll stop getting sappy here because we’ve got business to attend to: today we’re checking out the Devour Philly Cheesesteak Grilled Cheese, and boy are we ever excited to dive in. On one hand, we’re glad we get to try something new from Devour, but on the other, we know that every item review means there is one less evour item left for us to review. So it’s always a bit bittersweet to review something we haven’t tried before. In fact, their Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese is one of our favorite frozen meals. We tend to really enjoy Devour’s frozen food here at Freezer Meal Frenzy.
